Visitation: Thursday, August 16, 2018 From 4:00 P.M.to 7:00 P.M. at the Schipper Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass: Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church 479 S Burr Oak Rd, Colon, MI 49040 with burial to follow at Lakeside Cemetery.
Luncheon: A Luncheon will be held following burial back at the church.
Memorials: Donations can be made to the St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, Colon Food Bank, or Friends of the Colon Library.
Vera A. Ruge, age 99 of Colon, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at Maple Lawn Medical Care Facility in Coldwater.
Vera was born March 7, 1919 in Chicago, IL a daughter to the late John and Alice (Gooley) Mansell.
On January 12, 1946 she married Howard J. Ruge in Chicago and he preceded her in death on October 1, 1988.
Vera retired in 1982 from the Colmer Company in Colon after 18 years of employment.
She was a member of St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Colon, where she was a member of the Alter Society.
She is survived by 4 daughters’; Alice (Thomas) Cardy of Okemos, Janet (Dean) Whittington of Coldwater, Jane (Jim) Petz of Marshall, and Catherine Ruge of Colon, one son, Howard J. (Mickie) Ruge II of Georgia, 11 grandchildren Jennifer Whittington, Kristin(Cameron) Walker, Bryan (Kara)Whittington, Janine(Scott) Allen, Jacquelyn (Nick) Hoeve, Colleen (Nick) Brown, Jonathan (Brook) Ruge, Geoffrey Ruge, Amy Kline, Sara (Ross) Ginter, Douglas (Jenifer) Lampe, and many great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by 7 sisters; Elizabeth Crinnon, Lillian Hughes, Florence Kahl, Mary Hughes, Norine Early, Gertrude Lenz, Dorothy Read, and 2 brothers; William Mansell, and Frederick Mansell.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, from 4-7 P.M. at the Schipper Funeral Home LTD. in Colon. The funeral Mass will be Friday, August 17, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church in Colon with Fr. Paul Redmond officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeside Cemetery in Colon. Memorials may be made to either St. Barbara’s Catholic Church, The Colon Food bank or the Friends of the Colon Library.
