Linda Lee Maystead
Cremation has taken place. There are no services planned at this time.
On September 14, 2022, Linda Lee (Gest) Maystead peacefully passed away at her home. She was born on January 28, 1948, to Joseph and Irene (Howland) Gest. The new role of big sister started when her brother, Larry ‘Zeke’ was born. He preceded her in death in 1992. She went on graduate from Burr Oak High School in 1966 and attended Ft. Wayne Business College.
She fell in love with Ron Maystead and they were married February 21, 1969, and have been married for 53 years. Linda worked in the data processing department at Kirsch Company for almost 30 years. During that time, she and Ron, raised 2 daughters, Jodi (Scott) Thurow and Connie (Tinsley) Nelson who went on to give her the most rewarding job of all; that of being the best grandma in the world to Logan (Kennedy) Thurow, Austin (Alyssa) Thurow, Owen Nelson and her favorite granddaughter, Evie ‘Ev’ Nelson.
She loved to read, enjoyed fishing, especially trying to catch bigger and more fish than Ron, playing cards with the family, watching the hummingbirds, looking at flowers and hearing about and watching the many activities the grandkids were involved in.
During her struggle with cancer, she was overwhelmed by the kindness of her family especially her nieces and nephews, friends, and the staff at Centrica Hospice. Linda’s wishes were to be cremated, with no services. If you wish to honor her memory, please direct memorials to Burr Oak Fire Department c/o Mike Keesler, 208 W. Front St., Burr Oak, MI 49030. I am saddened to hear of your loss. The Burr Oak class of ‘66 is especially connected and kind. I understand how hard it is to lose your life partner and the difficulty for children to lose a parent. So my thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.

Ron, Jodi, and Connie. I’m so sorry to hear about Linda. She was always such a sweetheart to me when I was growing up in Burr Oak. I had no idea she was ill, I’m so sorry she had to go through this. Please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. All I can think of is what a joyous time it must be for her to see Joe and Irene and Zeke again.
