Alice B. Goodsell age 79 of Bronson, passed away at her grandsons in home in Bronson, on Friday, August 18, 2023.
Alice was born on August 19, 1943, in Van Wert, Ohio, a daughter to the late Virgil Stemen and Rebecca (Painter) Hobday. Alice graduated from high school in Van Wert, Ohio. She then would obtain her master’s degree in occupational therapy from Western Michigan University. Alice worked hard as a traveling Occupational Therapist. This allowed her to do two things she loved at the same time. Travel and care for others.
On August 26, 1961, Alice married Andrew E. Goodsell Jr. in Bronson, Michigan at the First Congregational Church. Andrew would precede Alice in death on March 24, 1990.
Alice loved her family. Every member had a special place in her heart, especially all her many grandchildren. She was a very intelligent woman with a passion for others. Her calm, easy going demeanor made her a beloved matriarch to her family. When she was able Alice loved to mountain climb and hike. She enjoyed riding motorcycles and was always known to have a big garden. The neighborhood folks referred to her as the “Garden Lady.” Alice’s career helped her to travel the country. After retirement she continued to travel and explore the country.
Alice is survived today by her children: Andrew E. Goodsell III of Coldwater, Wanda L. (Mike Snyder) Malone of Sherwood, daughter in law Meredith Goodsell, grandchildren: Andrew E. Goodsell IV, Troy Goodsell, Justin Malone, Jessie Huestis, Jeremy Malone, Megan (Brandon) Weddle, Jessica Snyder, Steven Snyder, her many great grandchildren, and a half sister Carmen Hobday.
Besides her parents Virgil Stemen and Rebecca Hobday and her husband Andrew E. Goodsell Jr. Alice was preceded in death by her son Neil R. Goodsell.
The Goodsell family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at the Schipper Funeral Home Ltd. in Colon from 5:00-7:00 PM. A funeral service celebrating the life of Alice will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Crossroads Bible Church in Sherwood at 11:00 AM with pastor Trent Hammond officiating. Interment will follow in Lake Bethel Cemetery: 10500 E 275 S, LaGrange, IN 46761. In lieu of flowers the family asks memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available both at the funeral home and at church.
