Richard A. Janes

Richard A. Janes age 82 of Rockford, formerly of Colon, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Porter Hills Village in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Born on August 2, 1941, in Fawn River Township, a son to the late William T. & Nora B. (Shallenbarger) Janes. Richard attended and graduated from Colon High School with the class of 1959. Richard then moved to Holland for a period of time before settling in Rockford for the last 40 years. Richard worked as a refuse driver at Sunset Waste for many years until his retirement.
On December 30, 1984, Richard married Joyce Marie Wright at Bethel Lutheran Church in Howard City, Michigan.
Richard spent several years in the truck tire business He had his own tire business, called Janes Tire in Grand Rapids. He then became a truck tire salesman for Jerrys Tire Service in Grandville for several years, until they closed. He then became a driver for Herrington Disposal, until they closed. The rest of his working life was driving for Sunset Waste in Pierson, Michigan. He later had to retire early from there due to a serious fall on the ice at work. After retiring he transported vehicles for various dealerships in the area. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, country music, and amateur photography, especially of nature, barns, and churches!
Surviving Richard today is his wife Joyce M. Janes of Rockford, children: Beth Anne (Todd) Adams of Resaca, Georgia, Renee (Eric) Wilson of Fremont, Michigan, Richard Janes of Greensboro, North Carolina, Aaron (Nancy) Beeman of Fife Lake, Michigan, Victoria (Thomas) Cate of Rockford, Michigan, grandchildren: Devin, Morelia Michael, Savannah, Blake, Ethan, Brantley, Kennidy, Hannah, and Anderson, 10 great grandchildren, and a brother: Roger (Linda) Janes of Sturgis, and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents William and Nora Janes, Richard was preceded in death by his daughter Jaylene Janes.
A private visitation will be held at the Schipper Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a public graveside service will be held at Lakeside Cemetery on Friday, October 20, 2023, at 12:00 PM.
